Other Choice Spirits

It is not the destiny of this generation to cross the plains:  Our destiny is to save the constitution.

“I testify that the God of Heaven sent some of His choicest spirits to lay the foundation of this government, and He has now sent other choice spirits to help preserve it.” (Ezra T. Benson, Nov. 87 Ensign)

Ezra T. Benson in his October 1965 General conference address titled “Not Commanded in All Things” made the following startling statement:

“The War in Heaven Is Raging on Earth Today.”

He explained that war is being waged by Lucifer to try to use the power of government to take away our free Agency – he further stated:

“Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness;

For the power is in them, wherein they are agents unto themselves. . .”

In that same Conference address he suggests that many of the elders of Israel are waiting for the church to come out with a church sponsored program or a manual of instructions to follow before they get involved in “the freedom battle” that he referred to as “political and controversial and the more weighty matters of the law.”  He further suggests if you are waiting for these programs from the church you are waiting in vain.

He quotes President J. Rueben Clark:

“President J. Reuben Clark, Jr., put it clearly and courageously when he said:

“Reduced to its lowest terms, the great struggle which now rocks the whole earth more and more takes on the character of a struggle of the individual versus the state. . . .

This gigantic world-wide struggle, more and more takes on the form of a war to the death. We shall do well and wisely so to face and so to enter it. And we must all take part. Indeed, we all are taking part in that struggle. Whether we will or not. Upon its final issue, liberty lives or dies. . . . The plain and simple issue now facing us in America is freedom or slavery. . .  We have largely lost the conflict so far waged. But there is time to win the final victory, if we sense our danger and fight.” (Ibid., pp. 318, 327-328.) Prophets, Principles and National Survival

Then Brother Benson asks the question:

“Now where do we stand in this struggle, and what are we doing about it?

The devil knows that if the elders of Israel should ever wake up, they could step forth and help preserve freedom and extend the gospel. Therefore the devil has concentrated, and to a large extent successfully, neutralized much of the priesthood. He has reduced them to sleeping giants.

Brethren, if we had done our homework and were faithful, we could step forward at this time and help save this country. The fact that most of us are unprepared to do it is an indictment we will have to bear. The longer we wait, the heavier the chains, the deeper the blood, the more the persecution and the less we can carry out our God-given mandate and world-wide mission. The war in heaven is raging on earth today. Are you being neutralized in the battle?”

Brother Benson then lists seven popular reasons, that the devil has promoted and many Elders of Israel have embraced, why many do not get involved with the “More Weighty Matters of the Law”:

“First: “We really haven’t received much instruction about freedom,” the devil says. This is a lie, for we have been warned time and again.

Second: “You’re too involved in other church work,” says the devil. But freedom is a weighty matter of the law; the lesser principles of the gospel you should keep but not leave this one undone.

Third: “You want to be loved by everyone,” says the devil, “and this freedom battle is so controversial you might be accused of engaging in politics.” Of course the government has penetrated so much of our lives that one can hardly speak for freedom without being accused of being political. Some might even call the war in heaven a political struggle –Certainly it was controversial.

Fourth: “Wait until it becomes popular to do,” says the devil, “or, at least until everybody in the Church agrees on what should be done.” But this fight for freedom might never become popular in our day. And if you wait until everybody agrees in this Church, you will be waiting through the second coming of the Lord.

Fifth: “It might hurt your business or your family,” says the devil, “and besides why not let the gentiles save the country? They aren’t as busy as you are.”

Sixth: “Don’t worry,” says the devil “the Lord will protect you, and besides the world is so corrupt and heading toward destruction at such a pace that you can’t stop it, so why try.”

And now as to the last neutralizer that the devil uses most effectively—it is simply this: “Don’t do anything in the fight for freedom until the Church sets up its own specific program to save the Constitution.” This brings us right back to the scripture I opened with today—to those slothful servants who will not do anything until they are “compelled in all things.” Maybe the Lord will never set up a specific church program for the purpose of saving the Constitution. Perhaps if he set one up at this time it might split the Church asunder, and perhaps he does not want that to happen yet for not all the wheat and tares are fully ripe.”

Here is the special message to all of the choice spirits Brother Benson is talking about, and Brothers and Sisters, he was talking about you and me. We need to get busy and do our homework, we need to unite with other choice spirits and enter this war; time is running out, action must be taken now.

Every Prophet since Joseph Smith has said it is important that every member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints be familiar with the content of the Constitution, and we above all other people on the earth should be defending it and protecting it from evil, especially since we know that it was inspired by God. It is the main protector of our Free Agency.

As part of fulfilling my duty to protect the Constitution, I’ve joined the “National States Rights Coalition.”  We found a choice spirit in the person of W. Cleon Skousen, who has worked closely with Brother Benson and Brother McKay and under their direction, has done much of our homework for us. He has spent over thirty years studying and recording his findings so we can use his vast knowledge in being prepared to step forward and save this country, by restoring the Constitution.

A few months before his passing, two members of the National Board of Directors of the National States Rights Coalition met with Brother Skousen for another session of his great counsel and advice.

He was pleased to learn that our goals and objectives were to restore the original success formula of the founding fathers by repealing the 16th and 17th amendments, which changed the Constitution from its original meaning and structure, He stated:

“The first and most important step in saving the constitution is the repeal of the 17th Amendment, the second step is the repeal of the 16th Amendment, but that can never happen until after the 17th Amendment has been repealed long enough to clean out the corruption and influence peddling in Congress that now holds this Nation in bondage.”

Brother Benson in “Not Commanded in All Things” adds this quote from President McKay:

“Next to being one in worshiping God, there is nothing in this world upon which this Church should be more united than in upholding and defending the Constitution of the United States!

May the appeal of our Lord in His intercessory prayer for unity be realized in our homes, our wards, our stakes, and in our support of the basic principles of our Republic.” (The Instructor, February 1956. p. 34.)

Many prophets have warned us that Lucifer tries to use the power of governments to rob us of our agency here on earth, but in order to do this he must change or make ineffective our constitution and it is our duty to defend the Constitution from these evil designs of Satan.

Our prophets have told us that this earth life is a continuation of the war in heaven, which was fought over our free agency, and the constitution is the key defender of free Agency.

If we are not familiar with the eternal principles the Constitution was founded upon, how will we know when those principles are being violated or destroyed?  Or know how to defend it?  Satan would like us to believe that as members of this church we cannot talk about, or get involved in politics and government. And the ‘politically correct’ would have you believe we can’t have Mormon or Christian Judges. But let’s review what some Prophets of God have said on this subject…

In the “Teachings of Joseph Smith” by Joseph Fielding Smith he states the Prophet Joseph and his brother Hyrum both urge members to get as much influence in government as they could, the Prophet even ran for the Presidency of this nation the year he was killed.

Brother Dallin Oaks and Brother Russell Ballard in talks this last year urged members to get involved in the political fight to protect our religious freedom, which are constantly under attack.

So why repeal the 17th Amendment? It destroyed the delicate system of checks and balances and the power the original 13 states held to keep the Federal Government under control. The 17th amendment provided the means for the Federal Government to break the chains of the constitution and allow it to invade our lives to the extent that we are on the verge of losing our liberty and the God given freedom granted to us by the Constitution.

The adoption of the 17th amendment changed the method used to select our US Senate, and set up the conditions that prevail in congress where wholesale corruption and influence peddling is the order of the day. Causing those in Washington D.C. to answer to the secret combinations that finance the million dollar election campaigns for those seeking these high offices.

We know the Lord has declared the Constitution was established on eternal principles and that anymore or less than this is evil.

Repealing the 17th amendment will restore the Constitution to the original successful formula of the Founding Fathers and as Brother Skousen stated, is the first and most important step in Healing America.

I recommend you spend sufficient time in doing your homework so we can join together and step forward now and save the Constitution.

  1. I certainly applaud your efforts, but getting involved in the fight for freedom around here will get you in trouble with your priesthood leaders, released from your callings, marginalized, persecuted, and maybe even denied a temple recommend. Been there, done that. Very sad.

    1. Should be not fear God more than man? Then get in trouble with those priesthood leaders, get released from your callings, and if you need to, move to a different place where the priesthood leaders honor their priesthood and understand that we have an obligation to preserve the Constitution and fight for righteous principles–what you call the fight for freedom.

Good thing our founding fathers weren’t worried about being marginalized and persecuted, eh?

    2. Bro Craig,

I am not too surprised the events you state happened to you but I will say with all confidence that it is possible to gain the ear of church leaders by the proper channels and officially start a Constitution study group within one’s own ward area. I was fortunate to start such a group with a brother in my ward and have had the support of a few dedicated members each month for the past 3 1/2 years.
Our Bishop and Stake Presidency were on board with this and have never had to be involved on a leadership level to stamp out discontent, malcontent or subversive behaviors often attributed to forthright, open and enlightened freedom seekers.

  2. President McKay told us, “Every member a missionary.” The time has come to be the candle on the hill. We need to speak and show the country what people they should be. We need to flood every local election with members of the church in all political parties. We can change th edebate and dialogue.

  3. President Wilson presided over the enactment of the 16th, the 17th, and the Federal Reserve Act. All of these were hugely detrimental of our freedom and prosperity. Yet very few politicians address these great evils.
